A cast iron manhole cover of class D400 with a round shape is designed for heavy loads of up to 40 tons. It is ideally suited for use on roads, streets, parking areas, industrial zones, and other locations with heavy vehicle traffic.
It serves to safely cover sewer inspection chambers and ensures easy access for their maintenance.
The manhole cover is equipped with two locks that enhance security and protect against unauthorized opening. Its design ensures easy access to underground utilities, such as sewer and water systems.
The locking system with two locks protects the cover from unauthorized opening and increases overall operational safety.

Completeness check

Before installation, check that the following components are included:

manhole cover with lid (or cap),
mounting brackets or anchor holes (if applicable),
load rating label (class A15–D400 according to EN 124),
sealing element (if applicable).

Preparation of the installation opening

Clean the seating surface from dirt, remnants of old material, and moisture.
Check that the shaft collar is in good condition and free of cracks.
For cast iron manhole covers, a concrete or reinforced concrete base is required.

Construction of a concrete bedding

Essential for cast iron manhole covers due to their weight and load!
Minimum concrete thickness: 10–20 cm depending on the substrate.
Recommended concrete: C20/25 or higher.
Possible reinforcement with a steel mesh of 100×100 mm, Ø6–8 mm.
The diameter of the concrete surface should exceed the manhole cover frame diameter by at least 10–15 cm.

Placement of the manhole cover into the concrete bedding

Insert the manhole cover frame to the desired height.
Level it evenly.
Position it correctly – the lid hinge should face the sidewalk, not the roadway.
Place the lid and ensure it fits properly and does not wobble.

Fixing

Cast iron manhole covers are fixed either by concreting or with anchor bolts (depending on the frame type).
For improved sealing or noise reduction, a gasket can be installed (if the design allows).

Concrete curing

Allow the concrete to cure for at least 24–48 hours (depending on the temperature) before applying any load.
